BEIRUT, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Suleiman said Monday
that any Arab or international efforts for reaching a comprehensive peace in the
region should stem from an understanding with Syria, local Elnashra website
reported.
Suleiman said that the "Lebanese-Syrian relations are witnessing mutual
trust" following the meeting with his Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad in August
2008.
Suleiman and Assad agreed last August to establish diplomatic relations for
the first time since their independence. Embassies were opened in both capitals
following the decision.
Syria ended in 2005 its some three-decade-long military presence in its
small neighbor country due to massive demonstration in Lebanon following the
assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in Beirut.
