BELGRADE, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Team China secured a place in the quarterfinals of women's soccer tournament at the World University Games here on Friday after beating host Serbia 2-0.
A long-range shot by defender Sun Yongxia and a solo effort by midfielder Liu Jia helped the Chinese side notch up their second win in Group A, which also includes Canada and Poland.
"We had a very short time to prepare for the Universiade, but I'm happy that my team played to their full," said Chinese coach Wang Haiming.
China will face Japan in the quarterfinals on Monday. The Japanese team reached the knockout stage as the runners-up of Group B.
Canada, who demolished Poland 3-0 on Saturday, finished second in Group A and meet France in the quarterfinals.
