CANCUN, Mexico, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The world is in a better position thanks to Mexico's hard-won knowledge in combating the A/H1N1 flu virus, Mirta Roses, director of the Pan-American Health Organization said Friday.
In a closing speech at the first World Health Organization (WHO)-backed global meeting on the topic, Roses said "many nations have shown us their errors and uncertainty but we leave here with a great deal of knowledge."
"Every nation has been able to share information and the meeting has focused on how to overcome the first wave of the pandemic," she said.
She also praised Mexico, the United States and Canada -- the first three nations to suffer from the disease -- for their solidarity and support in the fight against the virus.
The meeting, the "Lessons Learned and Preparedness of Influenza" gathered officials from 43 nations to Cancun, a resort town in Caribbean coast state Quintana Roo.
Mexican Health Minister,Jose Angel Cordova said that each participating nation has made progress in preparing an emergency plan.
He also described the meeting as "successful and historic."
WHO data shows that the flu has killed 382 people and infected 89,921 across the globe.
