BELGRADE, July 2 (Xinhua) -- An athlete from Australia participating in the
World University Games in Belgrade has been confirmed as having swine flu,
according to the Serbian Institute for Public Health's officials website.
The Australian athlete showed symptoms of the flu as soon as he arrived in
Serbia. This is the 14th case of the A/H1N1 virus registered in Serbia. Those
who have been in contact with the patient are under constant medical
supervision, according to the website.
Three other likely cases of the flu have also been registered in the
country. These are said to be persons with symptoms of the flu who were in close
contact with individuals that have fallen ill. These cases, however have yet to
be confirmed through a laboratory diagnosis.
Of the 14 confirmed cases in Serbia, 12 involved people who recently came
to Serbia from a foreign country where the flu was already confirmed -
Argentina, Australia, Canada, Britain and the United States. The other two
patients are people who were in contact with the Montenegrin case confirmed in
that country.
