STAVANGER, Norway, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Led by teams from Brazil and Germany, the first six men's pool play results at the 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Championships were decided here Tuesday with 12 tandems securing spots in Thursday's opening elimination rounds.
Brazilian winners Tuesday featured top-seeded Alison Cerutti/Harley Marques (Pool A) and Emanuel Rego/Ricardo Santos (Pool E) while the German efforts was led by third-seeded Julius Brink/Jonas Reckermann (Pool C) and 18th-seeded Sebastian Dollinger/Mischa Urbatzka (Pool G) as all four beach volleyball tandems posted 3-0 marks to win their pools outright.
Also capturing pools after tying another team for the pool leadership with 2-1 match marks were 11th-seeded Andy Ces/Kevin Ces of France (Pool K) and 16th-seeded Kristjan Kais/Rivo Vesik of Estonia (Pool I) as the two teams posted wins Tuesday over teams from Norway and Russia.
With six pools being decided Tuesday and the last six group placements being determined Wednesday, the 32-team single-elimination brackets for both men and women will begin Thursday.
The women's medal matches will be July 4 followed by the men's podium placement matches July 5. The winning teams in each gender share the 60,000-U.S.-dollar first-place prize.
