BEIJING, June 30 -- Blue Shandong Peninsula Economic Zone Summit opened on Friday in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong Province.

    A number of marine economic experts and scholars gathered in Jinan to give advice and suggestions to speed up the building of blue economic zone of Shandong Peninsula, including economic authorities from Peking University and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

    Shandong, with a coastline of 3100 kilometers, has the advantage to develop marine economy. In 1980s, Shandong province conducted "Shandong on the sea" strategy for development and in 1990s, the province put forward the policy of "developing marine economy". Shandong has advanced economy and increased GDP based on the marine resources.
