GENEVA, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The Swiss health authorities have decided to increase border controls to fight the spread of the A/H1N1 influenza virus, the official Swissinfo.ch news website reported Monday.

People entering Switzerland can be medically examined if necessary, the website quoted the Federal Health Office as saying.

Airlines and other companies that facilitate cross-border passenger transport will be required to release passenger data if authorities suspect somebody is carrying the virus, according to the report.

Passengers will be given a questionnaire about their health and the tests will be non-invasive.

The health authorities are also requiring all doctors to report suspected H1N1 flu cases to local authorities within one day.

As of Monday, 54 confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu have been registered in Switzerland, according to the report.

Worldwide, a total of 70,893 confirmed cases have been reported to the World Health Organization, including 311 deaths, the Geneva-based agency said on Monday.
