MONTEVIDEO, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Uruguay's primary elections for parties' presidential candidates ended on Sunday.

The nation's Electoral Court said that the polling began at 8:00 a.m. local time (1100 GMT) and ended 7:30 p.m. local time (2230 GMT).

The latest results showed that Jose Mujica, a former guerrilla who sought the candidacy for the left-wing Broad Front (FA) coalition and Luis Lacalle, the former president who sought the candidacy of the right-wing National Party (PN), would possibly win.

Mujica ran against Danilo Astori, a former economy minister who enjoyed the support of current president Tabare Vazquez, the nation's first elected left-wing president who will leave office in 2010. Lacalle ran against Senator Jorge Larra.

Polls showed that the FA has got between 43 and 48 percent of the votes and the PN between 34 and 39 percent. Around 2.6 million people were registered to vote out of 3.4 million residents.
