MEXICO CITY, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Mexico City health authorities are fully
prepared in case A/H1N1 influenza spreads this winter, City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard
said on Friday.
The City Health Department has enough anti-viral drugs Oseltamivir to treat
32,000 new A/H1N1 flu cases, Ebrard told reporters during a ceremony where a
three-day vacation for health sector workers was announced as rewards for their
overload work against the epidemic.
Ebrard also urged all the citizens to be vigilant for another A/H1N1
outbreak and take preventive measures to impede infections at working places,
schools, and sports and entertainment centers.
City Health Department Chief Armando Ahued said besides the city-stored
Oseltamivir, the Mexican Health Ministry has almost 1 million treatments
awaiting needs from Mexico City.
The Epidemic Vigilance and Intelligence Center will work 24 hours a day to
detect the new cases and refer patients to hospitals, Ahued added.
Till June 25, the health ministry has reported 119 deaths from A/H1N1 flu
in the country, and a total of 9,028 confirmed cases.
