Afghan troops capture Taliban commander in west

    KABUL, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Personnel of Afghan army, during a routine checking, arrested a Taliban key commander in Heart province, west of Afghanistan, spokesman of the army in the region Abdul Basir Ghori said Thursday.

    "Taliban key commander in the region Mawlawi Mohammad Sediq was driving towards Afghan army base in Shindand district Thursday morning to organize subversive activities when the troops identified and arrested him," Ghori told Xinhua.

    The arrested militant, according to Ghori, had served as the head of intelligence service for Taliban outfit in west Afghanistan and carrying out attacks against security forces and government officials.

    However, Taliban militants, who have vowed to speed up activities this year in Afghanistan, have yet to make any comment.
