KABUL, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Tuesday launched mobile voter registration, a bid to facilitate more Afghans to participate the coming presidential and Provincial Councils' election.
"The IEC, in order to provide further opportunities to ensure maximum participation in the elections, launched mobile voter registration today," the IEC said in a press release.
The registration will continue for 20 days across the country with two mobile teams (one for men and one for women) in each province operating in predetermined areas, it said.
In the press release, the IEC asked all those eligible citizens, who have not been registered, to register themselves so that they can exercise their right of suffrage.
Nearly 17 million Afghans have registered to use their franchise in the elections.
Afghanistan's second presidential and Provincial Councils in the post-Taliban is set for Aug. 20 during which some 17 eligible voters would use their franchise to elect the country's head of state.
