Thai PM meets Singapore leaders

    SINGAPORE, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, who is here for a one-day official visit, called on Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday.

    According to Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides reaffirmed the long-standing friendship and excellent state of relations between Thailand and Singapore.

    The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments, and agreed to forge a closer partnership to tackle emerging challenges confronting the region. In particular, both sides underscored the importance of pushing ahead with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations' (ASEAN) integration.

    Lee reaffirmed that Singapore will work closely with Thailand as the ASEAN chair to strengthen the organization.

    Abhisit also called on Singapore President S R Nathan. During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction at the strong and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

    Abhisit also met with Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew later the same afternoon. The discussions were broad-based with an exchange of views on regional and international issues.
