BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Father's Day is being celebrated Sunday and the day is the best time when children get a chance to honor their father, spend time with him and enjoy his company.

The day is special for both children and their father. As children cook at home for their father and go on an outing together, father takes the time to enjoy his children on this day.

Father's Day bagan hundred years ago in the United States when Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, came up with the idea of a national Father's Day on the order of Mother's Day in 1909. Although it took 57 years before U.S. President Lyndon Johnson issued a proclamation in 1966 making the third Sunday in June (Father's Day) the national holiday, the day has been celebrated since 1909.

All countries celebrate Father's Day on the third Sunday of June, except Australia, Finland and Thailand. Australia celebrates the first Sunday of September as Father's day, while Finnish people mark the day on second Sunday of November. In Thailand, December 5 is observed as Father's Day.

Times have changed and so has perceptions over the past hundred years, but the love of children toward their fathers and their passion to show their affection on Father's Day have remained the same.  For children doing something special for their father and wishing all the men they know who are dads a Happy Father¡¯s Day, makes Father's Day very special.
