SHANGHAI, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The number of A/H1N1 cases in China's mainland is in a period of mild rising, said an official with the World Health Organization (WHO) on Saturday.

According to the Health Ministry, the number saw a two-digit growth from June 9 to 19, while the confirmed cases rose from 89 in June 8 to 329 on Friday, measures taken by China's government to curb spread of the flu are "active and effective", said Dr. Hans Anders Troedsson, WHO chief representative to China.

The increase of cases was steady, and no sudden surges were reported, thus the spread of A/H1N1 in China's mainland was at a relatively low level, Troedsson noted.

He believed that vaccine played a key role in fighting against the disease, but publicity and education to the public was equally important.

However, although no death of the disease was reported yet, influence of the flu was still unpredictable, he said.

We should continue to raise people's recognition and alert of the epidemic, Troedsson warned.
