MEXICO CITY, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Some Latin American countries on Friday reported 87 new cases of the influenza A/H1N1 in the region.
The Peruvian Health Ministry reported 21 new cases of A/H1N1 flu, totaling 185 in the country.
Nicaraguan Health Minister Guillermo Gonzalez confirmed 13 new cases, raising the infection toll to 170.
The Brazilian Health Ministry reported 17 new cases, bringing the total to 131. The new cases were found in the states of Sao Paulo, Goias and Rio Grande do Norte.
According to Venezuelan Vice Health Minister Nancy Perez, 11 new A/H1N1cases were found in the states of Aragua, Miranda, Carabobo, Vargas, Capital District, Zulia, Tachira, Merida, Bolivar,
Anzoategui and Nueva Esparta. A total of 71 cases have been reported in Venezuela.
The Colombian National Institute of Health said seven new cases were discovered in Bogota, Medellin and Cali, totaling 64 in the country.
The Bolivian Health authorities reported five new cases, four of them in Santa Cruz department, the hardest-hit region in the country, and one in La Paz, bringing the total to 22 in the country.
Meanwhile, the Paraguayan Public Health Ministry confirmed 11 new cases in the country, totaling 27 cases. And 43 more people, who have shown flu-like symptoms, are under medial observance.
The Cuban Public Health Ministry said two people arriving from outside the island were diagnosed with A/H1N1 flu, bringing the total to 15 cases.
In El Salvador, authorities from the La Esperanza jail in Ayutuxtepeque municipality put 91 prisoners under medical observance for having flu-like symptoms. They are waiting for the labs results of their samples sent to be tested.
So far El Salvador has reported 160 A/H1N1 flu cases.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Friday 4,667 new cases including 13 new deaths since its last report Wednesday, bringing the total to 44,287 cases, including 180 deaths in 94 countries.
