BUENOS AIRES, June 19 (Xinhua) -- A snow storm fanned by high wind stranded some 700 trucks along

the border area between Argentina and Chile on Friday.

In the Argentine locality of Usapallat, large number of stranded trucks lined up for more than 50 meters along the national route 7.

Both sides have suspended transit via the international tunnel Cristo Redentor in the Andean mountain range.

Spokesmen from the Argentina National Police said that though in the last hours the conditions had improved, the bad weather continued and for the moment the transit restrictions would not be lifted.

The National Meteorological Service forecasted that snow and strong wind would continue into Friday, with wind gusts between 120-140 km per hour.
