JAKARTA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The death toll of Indonesia's coal mine explosion rose to nine, and 32 others were believed to be trapped underground, local officials said on Tuesday.

The accident happened following an explosion Tuesday morning atSawah Lunto of West Sumatra province, said Head of the Provincial Disaster Management Agency Ade Edward.

"The methane explosion threw 15 people outside the mine exit. Five of them were dead and ten others were seriously wounded," he told Xinhua in an earlier telephone interview.

He said four bodies have been recovered later Tuesday, which brought the death toll to nine.

Edward said it was estimated that 30 to 40 miners were trapped underground.

But Rustam Pakaya, head of crisis center with the Health Ministry, said that 32 miners were missing and supposed to be trapped in the pit.

The footage of a local TV station "TV One" showed the recovereddead bodies were all burned.

There is slim chance of surviving for those trapped people, Edward said.

Lack of safety standard has been often blamed for the cause of coal mine accidents.
