UNITED NATIONS, June 15 (Xinhua) -- U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said here Monday that the genuine will of Iranian people should be fully respected.

Ban said he has been closely following the situation in Iran after the election and has also taken note of the instructions by the religious leaders in Iran that there should be an investigation into the election.

"The position of me and the United Nations is that the genuine will of Iranian people should be fully respected," Ban told reporters in the U.N. headquarters, adding that he was watching how an investigation about the poll would turn out.
