BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Influenza A/H1N1 continued to spread around the world on Sunday.

    According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the new influenza strain has been found in 64 countries and remains most prevalent in North America. WHO labs have confirmed nearly 19,000 infections including 117 death cases.

    The South Korean authorities said Sunday that they have confirmed one more case of the flu, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 47.

    A 25-year-old woman tested positive for the virus on Saturday, the Health Ministry said.

    In Singapore, the government confirmed its first local case of the epidemic in a 39-year-old Indonesian woman who had not been abroad recently.

    In a statement issued on late Saturday, the Health Ministry said the patient had close contact with an earlier confirmed case.

    The country's total number of infections now stood at 15, 14 of which had traveled abroad.

    In the Chinese capital Beijing, two more new cases were reported late Saturday, bringing the total confirmed infections in China's mainland to 72. Both patients are Chinese women who recently returned from abroad.

    The Indian health authorities said Saturday that they had confirmed three new cases of the flu, bringing the total number of infections in the country to eight.

    Japan's total number of confirmed infections rose to 420 as of late Saturday, with the detection of five new cases.

    The government said two women, aged 21 and 23 respectively, were confirmed as having the disease. Both of them worked for the Narita airport.

    The Osaka city government said a 6-year-old boy, who recently visited the Untied States with his family, was found to be infected with the flu.

    The remaining three are a 27-year-old man in Yokohama, a boy in Hagi, and a junior.

    Malaysia confirmed two new cases of the epidemic on Saturday, bringing the country's total to seven.

    An Australian girl arrived in Kuala Lumpur Friday and was later hospitalized for having a fever, which was detected by the airport scanner, said officials of the health authorities.

    A 29-year-old Malaysian student who returned from the United States Wednesday later tested positive for the virus, said the authorities, noting both patients are in stable condition.

    The Australian authorities announced on late Saturday that 1,020 cases have been found in the country with the report of 14 new cases.

    The vast majority of the cases, 874, are in the southern state of Victoria.

    The Dominican Republic Saturday announced the country's first death case related to the flu.

    A 17-year-old pregnant female died of the disease. The country also reported 16 new cases of the flu Saturday, raising its total figure of infections to 60.

    The British health officials Saturday announced 19 new cases of the epidemic, bringing the country's total to 528, 382 of which were found in England, 141 in Scotland, three in Northern Ireland and two in Wales.

    Britain has the highest number of infections of the flu in Europe.

    In western Germany, two U.S. soldiers at a military hospital which was visited this week by U.S. President Barack Obama have contracted the flu, said local officials Saturday.

    These two cases were the first confirmed ones among U.S. soldiers stationed at European military bases.
