ISLAMABAD, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani Saturday rejected the statement of United States special envoy Richard Holbrooke that Pakistani leaders had not raised the issue of drone attacks inside Pakistan.
The News Network International (NNI) news agency quoted Gilani as saying that he had taken up the issue with Holbrooke when he met with him on Friday.
Responding to resentment being expressed by Pakistani people todrone attacks, Holbrooke said at a news conference here that no one brought up the issue during his meetings in Pakistan.
Gilani said that the impression given by Holbrooke was not correct.
During his three-day visit to Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke met with Pakistani leadership including President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi,Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and other military leadership and political leaders.
Pakistan's tribal areas bordering Afghanistan have witnesses missile attacks launched from U.S. drones. The Pakistani government has repeatedly protested against such attacks, terming them "counter-productive" in the war against terrorism.
