BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Delta Airlines
passengers at the Salt Lake City International Airport Tuesday didn't have to
wait in a check-in line for boarding! They instead used an electronic boarding
pass to get on their flight.
Travelers with a BlackBerry or iPhone or any other
web-enabled mobile phones handed over the devices for scanning by federal
security screeners and airline gate agents to board the flight.
Salt Lake International Airport is the 20th airport
to launch the new ticketless boarding pass program. They say it won't be long
before all carriers pick up on this new trend.
The option is available for domestic travel on
nonstop Delta, Northwest and Delta Connection flights departing from Salt Lake
City International Airport.
"Delta's time-saving technology puts customers in
control of their experience and provides them with valuable convenience," said
Josh Weiss, Delta's managing director ¨C delta.com and self service.
Weiss said: "passengers can now quickly check in and
receive a boarding pass for their Delta, Northwest or Delta Connection flight
while en route to the airport, in a taxi or walking from the parking lot to the
terminal. The check-in process now can take place from anywhere, any time within
24 hours of flight departure."
