Chile confirms 37 new cases of A/H1N1 flu

    SANTIAGO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Chilean Institute of Public Health (ISP) confirmed on Monday 37 new cases of A/H1N1 flu, raising the infected toll to 313 in the country.

    According to the ISP, the impact of the virus is waning. "A few weeks ago, 90 percent of the flu cases in the country was A/H1N1 and this week the situation changed," said Osvaldo Salgado, a Health Ministry official.

    "We have seen cases of respiratory syncytial, adenoviruses, parainfluenza and now only 65 percent is of H1N1 flu," Salgado said.

    Chile is the country with the largest number of confirmed A/H1N1 flu cases across South America.
