LOS ANGELES, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Vampire romance
"Twilight" and Oscar winner "Slumdog Millionaire" are the top nominees heading
into the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, which are scheduled to be presented Sunday
evening in Los Angeles.
"Twilight" leads the pack with seven nominations,
including best movie and best female performance for actress Kristen
Stewart.Robert Pattinson, the film's leading actor, didn't earn a nomination for
best male performance, but he was nominated for breakthrough performance by an
actor.
"Slumdog Millionaire," which won eight Academy Awards
earlier this year, has six MTV nominations, including best movie and
breakthrough performances by actor Dev Patel and actress Freida Pinto.
The pop-culture-fueled MTV Movie Awards ceremony,
which is to be held at the Gibson Amphitheatre, is considered a campy send-up of
Hollywood awards shows, including off-the-wall categories such as best fight,
best villain and best kiss.
New categories for this year's MTV awards show are
best song from a movie and "best WTF moment," honoring the year's most
outrageous film scenes.
Among the nominees in the "WTF" category are Ben
Stiller for taking a bite out of a decapitated head in "Tropic Thunder" and Amy
Poehler for urinating in a sink in "Baby Mama."
The nominees were chosen by an online voting system,
which is also be used to choose the winners. Online voting ended Wednesday for
most categories, but voting will continue through the awards show for the best
movie category.
In addition to "Twilight" and "Slumdog," nominees for
best movie are "The Dark Knight," "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" and "Iron
Man."
