ISLAMABAD, May 30 (Xinhua) -- In the last 24 hours,
25 militants including two commanders were killed in the ongoing military
operation in Pakistan's northwest, a military spokesman said here Saturday at
a press conference.
Major General Athar Abbas told reporters that a total of 1,217 militants including foreigners had been killed since the operation began in late April.
He said that 81 security forces personnel were killed and 250 others were wounded since then.
"Law enforcing operation by security forces is successful due to local public support. The people of Mingora have started pin pointing militants who were trying to pose as innocent citizens," Abbas said.
During the operation in Mingora, six improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were neutralized and one dead body of a militant was found.
"The army is in full control of Mingora," Abbas said, adding that it was secured without resistance from the militants.
Mingora, the city of some 500,000 population, was totally occupied by Taliban militants earlier this month and Taliban leader Maulana Fazalullah has recently asked his fighters in Mingora not to fire at the soldiers, according to local reports.
The spokesman said that terrorist commanders Abu Said Misbauddin and Sultan Khan were killed and three others apprehended in various areas of Swat.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakistani Information Minister
Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the foreign office had so far
received 231.5million U.S. dollars as assistance for the internally displaced persons (IDPs), which have
now exceeded 3 million.
28 more militants killed in military

ISLAMABAD, May 29 (Xinhua) -- As many as 28 militants were
killed and seven others were apprehended in operations in various areas of Swat
valley in the last 24 hour, the army said in a statement on Friday.
Five soldiers and two civilians were also injured when
security forces exchanged fire with militants, said the statement. Full story

ISLAMABAD, May 28 (Xinhua) -- At
least one person was killed and seven others injured Thursday evening in a huge
blast on a check post in the northwestern Pakistani city of Dera Ismail Khan,
local TV channels reported.
The blast near the Town Hall in Dera Ismail Khan
caused several vehicles nearby on fire, according to the private Geo TV. Full story

injured in an explosion Thursday evening at a market in the northwestern
Pakistani city of Peshawar, according to local TV reports.

Taliban claim attack in E Pakistan to
avenge offensive
ISLAMABAD, May 28
(Xinhua) -- Pakistani Taliban Thursday claimed responsibility for a suicide
attack in the country's eastern city of Lahore to avenge a military offensive in
the northwest and vowed further deadly strikes, according to local press
reports.
"We claim responsibility for the Lahore suicide
attack. It is revenge for the Swat military operation," Hakimullah Mehsud said
from an undisclosed place, saying that he was a spokesman for Pakistan Taliban

Pakistan offers rewards for Taliban
militants
ISLAMABAD, May 28
(Xinhua) -- Pakistan Thursday offered rewards for tips leading to the capture
alive or dead of 21 Taliban leaders and commanders in the country's northwest.

Explosion in Pakistan's Lahore, at
least 23 killed
ISLAMABAD, May 27 (Xinhua) -- An explosion took place in
eastern Pakistan's Lahore city on Wednesday, killing at least 23 people, private
DAWN NEWS TV channel reported.
The explosion occurred outside the Police Emergency
Services Office on Fatima Jinnah Road in Lahore, capital city of Punjab
province, said the report.
At least 23 people were killed and over 200 others
