MONTEVIDEO, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Uruguayans have increased their buying of masks, gel alcohol and anti-flu medicines after the confirmation of the first A/H1N1 flu case in the country, commercial sources said on Thursday.

Demand for these products soared starting from Wednesday after Uruguayan Public Health Ministry announced the detection of the first flu case, it said.

Meanwhile, public health authorities urged people to be careful in taking anti-flu medicines.

Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez on Wednesday also called on people not to create "paranoia" after the confirmation of the flu case.

"We should not dramatize, we must take it seriously, but should not create paranoia," Vazquez said.
