National consensus, priority of new gov't: Nepali PM

    KATHMANDU, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Newly elected Nepali Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal Tuesday said national consensus will be the government's main priority.

    Addressing the nation for the first time, M.K. Nepal emphasized on consensus between political parties to bring peace process at its logical conclusion.

    "Drafting new constitution is the vital requirement of Nepalese people and the government is serious to write it at stipulated timeframe," said M.K. Nepal.

    M.K. Nepal was delivering his especial message to people as the second prime minister of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

    Realizing the challenges ahead during drafting new constitution, he appealed whole political parties including Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (UCPN-M) under consensus.

    "If we unite, we can protect international intrusion," he said inviting UCUN-M to join government.

    He said that the new government will stand on "civilian supremacy" rather than "military supremacy." He made such remarks following the criticism by UCPN-M leaders who boycotted the election process terming it as government based on "military supremacy."

    M.K. Nepal was elected new prime minister of Nepal on Saturday by the majority of Constituent Assembly (CA) Members leadership However, UCPN-M boycotted the whole process and said there will be no support from their side to the newly formed government.

    While addressing the nation from his office at Kathmandu on Tuesday afternoon, M.K. Nepal also expressed his tenderness towardar my integration and rehabilitation. He vowed the integration and rehabilitation of UCPN-M combatants living at cantonment waiting for the rehabilitation.

    "The whole process will be done under the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) which is headed by UCPN-M chairman Prachanda," said M.K. Nepal.

    In his speech, M.K. Nepal expressed his gratitude to previous PM Prachanda, Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala and President Ram Baran Yadav.

    M.K. Nepal also said that the new government would continue all positive programs started by the previous government which was led by UCPN-M.
