Visiting UN Secretary-General Ban

HELSINKI, May 25 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban
Ki-moon arrived in Helsinki on Monday for a three-day official visit to Finland
at the invitation of Finnish President Tarja Halonen.
As soon as he arrived in Helsinki Airport, Ban said
to the media that North Korea's nuclear test Monday was definitely against all
international treaties. He is following closely the UN Security Council's
ongoing emergency meeting.
This is Ban's first visit to Finland as UN
secretary-general. Ban will hold talks with Finnish President Halonen on
Tuesday. The discussion agenda will be topped by issues such as climate change,
the international financial and economic crisis, the UN's crisis management and
peacekeeping operations and regional issues such as Afghanistan and the Middle
East, according to Finnish President's office.
Ban will also deliver an address to Finnish
Parliament and meet with Finnish political figures, including Speaker of
Parliament Sauli Niinist, Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen, former President Martti
Ahtisaari and Foreign Trade and Development Minister Paavo Vyrynen.
His agenda also includes a meeting with
representatives of non-governmental organizations and a visit to the World
Institute for Development Economics Research of the UN University in Helsinki.
