Maradona summons 26 soccer players

    BUENOS AIRES, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Coach from the Argentine soccer national team, Diego Maradona summoned on Friday 26 soccer players for the coming two matches against Colombian and Ecuador of the South American Eliminatory for the World Cup South Africa 2010.

    In the list there are 17 players from foreign clubs, like Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez, Javier Mascherano and Sergio Aguero, as well as nine who play at the local league like Nicolas Otamendi and Gonzalo Bergessio.

    Argentina will face Colombia on June 6 in Buenos Aires and will face Ecuador on June 10 in a high of 2,850 meters in Quito.

    In its last match the Argentine team was humiliated by Bolivia when it got a historical triumph of 6-1 over Argentina.

    The leader of the general board of the Eliminatory is Paraguay with 24 points, followed by Brazil with 21, Chile with 20 and Argentina with 19.

    Goalkeepers Mariano Andujar (Estudiantes de La Plata-Argentina), Juan Pablo Carrizo (Lazio-Italy) and Federico Vilar (Atlante-Mexico).

    Defense: Javier Zanetti (Internazionale-Italy), Marcos Angeleri (Estudiantes de La Plata-Argentina), Nicolas Otamendi (Velez-Argentina), Nicolas Burdisso (Internazionale-Italy), Daniel Diaz (Getafe-Spain), Juan Forlin (Boca Juniors-Argentina), Martin Demichelis (Bayern Munich-Germany), Gabriel Heinze (Real Madrid-Spain) and Emiliano Papa (Velez-Argentina).

    Midfilders: Maximiliano Rodriguez (Atletico Madrid-Spain), Mascherano (Liverpool-England), Fernando Gago (Real Madrid-Spain), Sebastian Battaglia (Boca Juniors-Argentina), Christian Gimenez (Pachuca-Mexico),Jonas Gutierrez (Newcastle United-England), Juan Sebastian Veron (Estudiantes de La Plata-Argentina)and Daniel Montenegro (Independiente-Argentina).

    Forwards: Messi (Barcelona-Spain), Sergio Aguero (Atletico Madrid-Spain), Carlos Tevez (Manchester United-Inglaterra), Lisandro Lopez (Porto-Portugal), Diego Milito (Genoa-Italy) and Gonzalo Bergessio (San Lorenzo-Argentina).
