JAKARTA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will try to have the Manado Ocean Declaration (MOD), an outcome of the just concluded World Ocean Conference (WOC), included in the United Nations General Assembly in September 2009.

    "The Indonesian President is invited by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to address the forum side by side. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will speak at a luncheon with heads of state and government of 180 countries," the Antara news agency on Thursday quoted Indonesian Environment Minister Rachmat Witoelar as saying.     

    The President did not speak about the MOD only, but also the Kyoto Protocol, said the minister on Wednesday.

    He said, Indonesia will also try to have the MOD included in the agenda of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change at the 15th conference of the parties in Copenhagen, Denmark, in December 2009.

    But before that, Indonesia will also try to have the MOD included in the Major Economist Forum in Paris, May 25-26, 2009 to discuss climate and energy issues.

    "Indonesia had been invited to the Major Economist Forum, which will be attended by 14 major economically advanced countries at U.S. President Obama's initiative," the minister said.

    He said he had already launched a lobby on the Major Economist Forum member countries which attended the WOC, namely Japan, China, Australia and the United Kingdom.

    He also said that Indonesia will also try to have the MOD included in other international fora like the G8 summit in Italy, the Ad hoc Working Group or the pre-meeting of COP-15 the UNFCC in Bonn, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the UNFCC in Bali.

    The World Ocean Conference (WOC) was held in Manado, capital of Indonesian North Sulawesi province, from May 11 to 15. The MOD issued at the end of the meeting called on the whole world to concern about the protection of ocean issue.
