TEHRAN, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said Tuesday that the United States supports terrorists along Iran's western borders against the country, local satellite Press TV reported.

"The United States is promoting terrorism behind (Iran's) western frontiers... They (Americans) directly finance operations and organize terrorist movements to undermine the Islamic Republic," Khamenei said in the western Iranian province of Kurdistan.

"We have information that Americans have evil plans for Kurdistan... They're not planning to defend the rights of the Kurdish people but their aim is to dominate the Kurds and sow seeds of discord among them," he added.

In April, the separatist Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) forces attacked a police station in the town of Ravansar, in northern part of western Kermanshah province and the clash led to the killing of 10 rebels and 10 Iranian police.

On Wednesday, Iran's volunteer Basij Forces killed five rebels near the country's borders with Turkey and Iraq.

Iran's western provinces have been the hotbed of regular armed clashes between Iranian security forces and Kurdish rebels, in particular PJAK, an anti-Iranian Kurdish group linked to Turkey's outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK).

Some Iranian analysts said that PJAK rebels have bases in northeastern Iraq from where they operate against Iran.
