BEIJING,
May 11 -- After the release of Secret of the Magic Gourd in 2007, Walt Disney
Studios unveils its second joint production with China, Touch of the Panda,
which opens citywide on May 8.
Filmed in live action at the famous Wolong Giant
Panda Nature Reserve, the movie follows the adventures of a baby panda who is
separated from his mother and then befriends a lonely orphan boy, played by
newcomer, Japanese actor Daichi Harashima. The boy then takes it upon himself to
help the panda find his way home, and the two travel around the Sichuan
countryside. The film is directed by Yu Zhong from China.
In the Disney tradition of family films, Touch of the
Panda takes audiences on an interesting and heart-warming adventure with the
cute animal, which is also considered the symbol of China.
Disney worked on the pre-production and filming with
local producers Castle Hero Pictures and Ying Dong Media.
