BEIJING, May 7 -- One hundred one-of-a-kind
cakes will be baked by 100 families around Shanghai on Saturday at City
Center in the Hongqiao area. They will be combined to make Shanghai's biggest
Mother's Day cake, according to Ding Jian from the marketing department of the
shopping complex.
All families will be assisted and instructed on site
by professional pastry chefs who will also create various desserts for the
shoppers.
Ma Haisheng, a winner from the local reality talent
show "My Show," will sing, chat with the audience and reminisce about his
memories of Mother's Day, which falls on Sunday this year.
On Sunday, a "Mom, I Love You" photo exhibition will
open in City Center's lobby, featuring more than 300 snaps of the merriest and
most touching moments between children and their mothers. Most are taken by
amateur photographers.
Meanwhile, the city's upmarket Maison Mode mall on
Huaihai Road will launch promotions for Mother's Day.
Jewelry is always a favorite choice for a gift for
mom. Rare Jewelry, a new tenant at the shopping mall, has launched the Mother's
Day collection featuring pieces combining diamonds and pearls. Meanwhile, all
the emerald and ruby collections are discounted as much as 30 percent.
At Spanish jewelry brand ARTE, each patron will get a
500-yuan (US$73) voucher for "pleasant blossom," a brooch from the house's
latest spring/summer collection. Every customer spending more than 5,000 yuan
will receive the "beloved square" table decoration.
This year's Mother's Day collection at Swarovski has
a sense of poetry and sweetness, and is composed of the heart-shaped Alana
Pendant in shades of rose, colorful crystal butterflies and a key chain.
More than 20 promotional sets of necklaces and
earrings are discounted through Sunday in Swarovski stores.
