DAR ES SALAAM, May 4 (Xinhua) -- The death toll of the military depot blast in Dar es Salaam has gone up to at least 22 after two hospitalized wounded people died on Sunday, according to medical sources of the city.
So far six service personnel and 16 civilians have been confirmed as killed by last Wednesday's blast at the Mbagala Armoury 15 kilometers outside the city center of Dar es Salaam.
Major General Alfred Mbowe, spokesperson of the Tanzania People 's Defense Forces, said that the military authorities of the country would give a press conference later on Monday during which deaths on the military side would be made clear.
The military authorities have earlier claimed that five missing service personnel from the military base were still unaccounted for. That can add up to the death toll.
It was the second such incidental blast at a military armoury in Tanzania. The other one occurred at the Gongola Mboto military base also near Dar es Salaam in 2000 with no human life loss.
