Palestine-Israel Conflicts
GAZA, May 3 (Xinhua) -- The Popular Front for the Liberation
of Palestine (PFLP) on Sunday echoed Islamic Hamas movement's
rejection of President Mahmoud Abbas' plan to form a new government soon.
Rabah Muhana, a PFLP leader in Gaza, said "forming an
extended government without a national understanding will boost the internal
split and block the dialogue."
"Such a government will be part of Hamas-Fatah feud
and will increase the suffering of our Palestinian people," Muhana added.
He called for forming a transitional unity government
with a specific platform to run the daily matters until new elections are held
by January 2010.
On Saturday, a spokesman for Abbas said the leader of
Fatah plans to form an expanded government in the West Bank soon.
Hamas opposed the step since the Egyptian-sponsored
unity and reconciliation dialogue with Fatah has not yet ended.
In the Cairo-hosted dialogue, the Palestinian
factions failed to agree on the platform of a unity government but agreed on
holding the elections next January.
Currently, the Gaza Strip is controlled by the Hamas
administration sacked by Abbas following its violent takeover of Gaza in June
2007, while the West Bank is ruled by a Western-backed government led by Salam
Fayyad.
