Special Report: Obama's first 100 days in White House

WASHINGTON, April 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama said Wednesday that his administration is continuing to closely monitor the emerging swine flu and will take utmost precautions to deal with the pandemic.

"We are continuing to closely monitor the emerging cases of theH1N1 flu virus throughout the United States," Obama said in his prepared remarks to be delivered at the opening of a prime-time press conference to mark his 100th day in office.

"This is obviously a very serious situation, and every American should know that their entire government is taking the utmost precautions and preparations," the president said.

Obama made the remarks as the country is facing a growing danger of a outbreak of the deadly epidemic.

A 23-month old child in Texas has become the first fatality from swine flu in the United States, Acting Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Richard Besser said earlier Wednesday.
