Taliban to launch new spring offensive throughout Afghanistan

    KABUL, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Taliban militants on Wednesday vowed to launch spring offensive against Afghan and the U.S.-led forces stationed in Afghanistan, a statement of the outfit released to media said.

    The statement, which bears the name of Mullah Brather, a close aide to Taliban elusive chief Mullah Mohammad Omar, was read to media by Taliban purported spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid.

    "The military operation dubbed Nasrat (Victory) would include ambushes, roadside bombings and suicide attacks against foreign troops, diplomatic missions, military convoys, officials, parliamentarians and security personnel," it said.

    The statement further emphasized that the new operation Nasrat would begin from April 30 throughout the country.

    In the statement released from unknown location to media outlets, the fundamentalist outfit called on military and civilians employees of the government of Afghanistan to stop working.

    "The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (name of Taliban' former regime) is calling on all military and civilian employees of the government to stop working and begin support the Mujahidin (holy worriers)," the statement said.

    It also called on all private construction, transportation and communication firms to halt cooperation with international forces and Afghan administration.

    "The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is calling on all private construction companies, communication firms and drivers who supply oil to foreign troops or construct military barracks must stop their work, otherwise, the Mujahid in would punish them," the statement further said.

    Taliban made this announcement in the wake of U.S. and allied nations to send in additional 29,000 troops to Afghanistan bringing the number of the alliance forces to over 90,000 in the post-Taliban nation.
