CARACAS, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela has recalled its ambassador to Peru
to protest the country's granting political asylum to a Venezuelan opposition
leader, reports said.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Venezuelan government said Peru should
have arrested and extradited Manuel Rosales, and the case prompted it to
"evaluate" its diplomatic relations with Peru.
Rosales, once a presidential candidate, is an opponent of President Hugo
Chavez and faces corruption charges back home.
Rosales appeared in Peru last week. He argued that he suffered persecution
in Venezuela and all the charges against him were politically motivated.
