     WASHINGTON, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese and U.S. firms signed 32 trade and investment contracts on Monday worth some 10.6 billion U.S. dollars, which the U.S. Chamber of Commerce said will support U.S. economic growth and job creation.

    "With businesses in both countries struggling, these deals come at a critical time and will help create jobs and stronger commercial bonds between the United States and China," said Myron Brilliant, the chamber's senior vice president of international affairs, who presided over the signing ceremony.

    Companies like China Mobile, Lenovo, Amway, Cisco, Dell, Emerson, EMC, Ford, Freescale and Hewlett-Packard signed deals at the ceremony.

    "The Chinese government does not pursue a trade surplus with the U.S.," visiting Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming wrote in an article published on The Wall Street Journal on Monday.

    "We will continue to encourage Chinese companies to import more from the U.S., and we will also welcome U.S. companies and trade-promotion agencies to be more active in China," said Chen.

    Prior to the signing ceremony, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products hosted a forum, at which senior American and Chinese business executives spoke about the importance of U.S.-China cooperation in addressing shared economic, geo-strategic, and environmental challenges.

China, U.S. vow to strengthen trade ties

    WASHINGTON, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese and U.S. trade officials pledged Monday to strengthen bilateral trade cooperation amidst the ongoing global financial crisis.

    "We welcome American companies that want to increase their investment in China," visiting Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming said when meeting his U.S. counterpart Gary Locke. "Meanwhile, we also encourage capable Chinese companies to invest in the U.S." Full story

Chinese commerce minister calls for stronger Sino-U.S. trade ties

     WASHINGTON, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming has called for stronger economic ties between China and the United States.

    "Economic links have always been an important basis for the China-U.S. relationship, and the growth in trade between the two countries has been robust since the establishment of normal diplomatic relations," Chen wrote in an article published in The Wall Street Journal on Monday.  Full story

U.S. business community calls for lift of export control to China

    BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. business community in China called for the U.S. government to carry out a review and revision of "antiquated export control regulations" here on Monday.

    "U.S. export control policies do not adequately incorporate the realities of this global environment," said the 2009 White Paper on the State of American Business released by the American Chamber of Commerce in China (AmCham-China) the same day. Full story

Chinese trade team heads to U.S. for new deals

    BEIJING, April 23 -- A Chinese trade delegation is leaving Thursday for the United States to explore trade and investment opportunities, close on the heels of a similar mission to Europe in February, according to sources.

    The team will visit San Francisco, Washington and Chicago from today to May 1st, according to an initial schedule of the mission seen by China Daily. Full story

Geithner: U.S. needs the rest of the world economy to recover

    WASHINGTON, April 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said on Tuesday that the prosperity of the American economy needs the rest of the world to recover.

    "The rest of the world needs the U.S. economy and financial system to recover in order for it to revive," said Geithner in remarks to the Economic Club of Washington. "We remain at the center of global economic activity with financial and trade ties to every region of the globe." Full story

WB chief calls for close relations between U.S., China

    WASHINGTON, April 21 (Xinhua) -- World Bank President Robert Zoellick said on Tuesday that the United States and China should work closely to cope with the current crisis.

    "We try to point it out that in addition to getting out of this economic downturn, its important for the United States and China to work cooperatively on mutual structural reforms," Zoellick responded to a question raised by Xinhua. Full story
