According to Bhattarai, Nepal was admitted in the
United Nations on Dec. 14, 1955. From the first time it attended the General
Assembly session in 1956, Nepal continuously supported the resolution to restore
the legitimate seat for the PRC in the UN, its agencies and other international
organizations until China regained the seats in the General Assembly and the
Security Council in 1971.
The veteran diplomat was appointed first Nepali
secretary in 1967.
According to him, the Chinese Embassy was set up in
1960 in Nepal and the Nepali Embassy was established in 1961 in China.
He said, "I mainly performed three top jobs while
being in China, I learned Chinese, recognized New China to promote Nepal-China
relationship and studied Nepal-China history.
"During the change and the process of development, I
was there in China attending each important event, added Bhattarai.
From the date of establishment of PRC, China has
conquered a height and the rest of the world seeks support and cooperation, he
opined. "That is why the presence of China in the every important incidents of
world has become important," he added.
Comparing the past history of Nepal and China when
the PRC was just founded, Bhattarai said, "Within short time frame they have
achieved development in such level."
"China has always helped Nepal in the need, even now
also they are ready to help us if we ask for," he said. "They have money and are
ready to invest in Nepal, but we need stability, proper circumstances and
mechanism to utilize their investment."
According to him, after the establishment of
diplomatic relations between Nepal and China in 1955 on the basis of policy of
peaceful coexistence and non-alignment, the relationship between the two
countries has developed by every passing day.
"Nepal regards China to be a reliable friend. China
admires and appreciates non-aligned foreign policy of Nepal and respects it as a
good friendly neighbor. There is good understanding between Nepal and China."
"When a problem crops up, the two countries consult
each other and find mutually satisfactory solutions immediately. Both Nepal and
China are committed to the peaceful means of solving the issues," said
Bhattarai.
Nepal and China maintain these commitments and
scrupulously observe and fulfill the Treaty obligations. They are meticulously
nurturing their mutual relationship and therefore further development of their
friendship is considered to remain beneficial to both sides at present and also
in the future, said.
