BEIJING, April 27 -- Chinese officials are
reassuring the public inspectors have the capability to detect and prevent swine
flu from entering the country.
The A-H-1-N-1 flu strain, a mixture of swine, human
and avian flu viruses, has killed at least 62 people and sickened about 900
others in Mexico and the U.S. since it was first detected last week.
Li Huailin with the Chinese Academy of Inspection and
Quarantine says the academy is currently assisting the government in efforts to
prevent swine flu from entering the country.
As of Sunday, no cases had been reported, according
to the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.Although there is no
known vaccine against swine flu, the center claims it is quote--"preventable,
controllable, and treatable."
Saturday, Chinese officials issued an emergency
notice for people arriving from virus-affected countries to report any flu-like
