Authorities begin probe into Mexico train crash

    MEXICO CITY, April 19 (Xinhua) -- The government of the state of Mexico and the suburban train company on Sunday began investigating the cause of Saturday night's crash, which injured some 130 people.

    Train operator Ferrocarriles Suburbanos said it had begun an investigation and expressed sympathy for the passengers who were affected.

    The accident occurred when a train crashed into another that had been halted for unknown reasons in the town of Tlalnepantla in Mexico state, the administrative region immediately surrounding Mexico City.

    On Sunday, 109 injured people were released from hospital, but officials said another 20 or more remain in hospital.

109 discharged from hospital after Mexico train crash

    MEXICO CITY, April 19 (Xinhua) -- The Mexican Red Cross said on Sunday it had discharged 109 people treated for injuries sustained in Saturday night's crash of two suburban trains 20 kilometers outside of Mexico City, in the State of Mexico.

    A further 20 or more passengers remained in other hospitals, belonging to the state-run Mexican Social Security Agency, said Javier Heredia, commander of the Red Cross in the State of Mexico town Tlalnepantla, part of the Mexico City conurbation. The Red cross had been treating 96 adults and 13 minors.  Full story

At least 50 people injured in train collision in Mexico

    MEXICO CITY, April 18 (Xinhua) -- At least 50 people were injured in a train collision on Saturday night near the Mexico City, local media reported.

    The accident occurred on the recently inaugurated Suburban Railway in the State of Mexico, which borders Mexico City, a Mexican official was quoted as saying. A train stopped running due to malfunction, while a following train ran into it from the back.  Full story
