    BEIJING, April 19 -- China's navy is set to hold a huge maritime ceremony to mark its 60th anniversary in April, and has invited ships and top officials from dozens of countries to attend, media reported Saturday.

    The four-day celebration -- set to begin Monday in and off the coast of the eastern city of Qingdao -- will involve 21 naval vessels from 14 countries, Xinhua news agency said. Full story

    QINGDAO, April 19 (Xinhua) -- US navy missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald arrived here on Sunday afternoon to attend an international fleet review on April 23 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army Navy.

    The 6,800-tonne USS Fitzgerald, a Japan-based destroyer from the 7th Fleet, arrived at the port city Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province at 3:30 p.m.. Full story

Chinese PLA Navy to celebrate founding anniversary, joined by visiting overseas vessels and delegations

    BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhua) -- China's People's Liberation Army Navy will hold a grand celebration ceremony to mark its 60th founding anniversary, and 21 naval vessels from 14 countries and delegations from 29 countries will join the event, the country's National Defence Ministry said Saturday.

    The ceremony, lasting from April 20 to 23, will be at Shandong province's Qingdao city and off its coast. Its theme is Peaceful Ocean, calling for more intimate and harmonious oceanic safety cooperation between countries. Full story

Chinese navy expands foreign cooperation

    BEIJING, April 15 (Xinhua) -- China's navy is stepping up foreign exchanges and cooperation to cope with non-traditional security threats in oceans, Navy Commander Adm. Wu Shengli said here Wednesday.

    Since the new century, the Chinese navy has conducted 37 joint military drills with its foreign counterparts in areas including non-proliferation of weapons of destruction, security defense of sea-land-air channels, anti-terrorism and joint search and rescue, Wu said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua. Navy admiral: China to develop sophisticated marine weapon systems

    BEIJING, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Large surface combat ships, supersonic cruise aircraft, high-speed intelligent torpedoes ... These are a few sophisticated marine weapons China plans to build.
