JAMMU, India-controlled Kashmir, April 18 (Xinhua) -- At least 35 persons, including 30 Kashmiri protesters, were injured in clashes with Indian police and paramilitary forces Friday in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir, police said on Saturday.

Hundreds of Kashmiris took out protest marches in Srinagar's old city and other districts.

The people expressed anger over the recent statement of moderate faction of the separatist amalgam All Parties Hurriyat Conference about the Indian general elections.

The acting chairman of the moderate faction of the conglomerate Moulana Abbas Ansari has asked people to decide whether to boycott the Indian general elections or not, and dropped the boycott call.

"Hurriyat (M) leadership should be clear about issues. Boycott call should have come from this platform. The protest is to communicate our resentment to the leadership," said 28-year-old Shamim Ahmed, a science postgraduate protesting against the conglomerate's decision.

The demonstrators, mostly young people, tried to take out a procession against New Delhi's rule in the region and against the Indian general elections in the region.

Part of India-controlled Kashimir joined the first phase of the Indian general elections Thursday.

The Jammu-Poonch parliamentary constituency recorded 49 percent turnout in the voting which proved peaceful, said officials.

Compared with overwhelming turnout in local assembly elections held four months ago, this time the polling fell short of expected anticipation.

The rest of India-controlled Kashmir will join the remaining four phases of the polling of the Indian general elections.
