BEIJING, April 14 (Xinhua) -- China said Tuesday it sincerely hoped to see social harmony and stable economic growth in Thailand.

"We are good neighbors," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told a regular press conference.

China paid close attention to the domestic situation in Thailand, she said in response to a question concerning Thailand's turmoil.

Thai government declared a state of emergency over Bangkok and surrounding areas on Sunday afternoon, in a bid to curb anti-government protests led by the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD).

The military moved from early Monday to disperse the red-shirted UDD protesters at rally points around Bangkok. Clashes caused the death of two persons and 121 injuries, according to the authorities.
