RIO DE JANEIRO, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The Vitoria soccer club presented on Monday their new head coach Paulo Cesar Carpegiani in the hope of continuing a solid 2009 season.

Vitoria did not only name a new head coach, but also added two other members to their directory as Carpegiani agreed to take the job on the condition that his son, Rodrigo Carpegiani, and friend, Julinho Camargo be hired as well. Both will serve as assistant coaches.

The coaching change comes as a bit of a surprise as former head coach Mauro Fernandes and his assistant, Magner Mancini, recently quit and Ricardo Silva stepped in to coach the team.

Silva agreed to stay on board with Carpegiani and help take the team to victory. Vitoria currently leads the Bahia state soccer championship and is very close to advancing to the third phase of the Brazilian Cup.

After his introduction to the press, Carpegiani held a private meeting with the players of Vitoria. The new coach hopes to pick up exactly where they left off. On Wednesday, April 15, the team will face Juventude in the Brazilian Cup. The team needs only to tie to qualify for the next round.
