NEW DELHI, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Some Sri Lankan Tamil politicians will visit India next week to discuss situation in northern Sri Lanka and ties with India once the Liberation Tamil Tigers Eelam (LTTE) is routed out by government forces, reported the semi-official Press Trust of India on Saturday.
This will the first such visit by a Sri Lankan pro-LTTE delegation to India in recent years, said the report.
The five-member delegation will be headed by R. Sambandan, a leader of the TNA Party of Sri Lanka, which is considered to be pro-LTTE although it holds 22 seats in the Sri Lankan Parliament.
They will discuss with Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon the current situation in northern Sri Lanka and contributions that India can make for reconstruction and development of the area after the war is over, said the report.
While Indian government refuses to intervene into Sri Lanka's internal conflict, the political parties in the southern Tamil Nadu state of India, where 90 percent of the population are ethnic Tamils, have called on the government to pressure Colombo to stop the offensive against LTTE.
