China, Switzerland eye closer co-op on water resources

    BEIJING, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu met with Federal Councilor and Head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications of Switzerland Moritz Leuenberger here on Friday, with both sides pledging to enhance cooperation on water resources.

    Hui spoke highly of the friendly cooperation between China and Switzerland in various fields in recent years.

    He said it was the important task of the international community to realize the sustainable use of water resources and guarantee the sustainable development of the economy and society, adding that "China hopes both countries can conduct more exchanges and closer cooperation on water resources."

    Hui also briefed Leuenberger on the development of China's economy and society as well as the responsible measures adopted by China in tackling the international financial crisis.

    Leuenberger was here for the 3rd Yangtze Forum and the agreement on water resources cooperation between China and Switzerland.

    He said that there was great promise for the cooperation on water resources between the two countries and Switzerland would work to promote the bilateral cooperation to a higher level.
