BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) -- China has launched a website to encourage people to pay their respects to fallen revolutionary heroes online ahead of the Qingming Festival.
Chinese people traditionally honor their ancestors on
Qingming or Tomb-Sweeping Day, which falls on April 4 this year.
The on-line memorial, initiated by the Central
Civilization Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on March 26, allows
Chinese to show their respects for those who died in the revolution on
www.wenming.cn/wmdjr/qm.htm, until April 14.
The website had received some 500,000 visits from
Internet users, 60,000 of whom posted comments, sources with the office said
Wednesday.
"The national martyrs sacrificed their lives for our
happy life," said Chen Binpeng, a primary student in Nanchang, in east China's
Jiangxi Province. "I will study hard to contribute to the country."
Wang Guang, a student in the Henan Industrial School,
in central China's Henan Province, said he was proud of the martyrs and would
carry on their spirit.
