BEIRUT, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Shiite armed group Hezbollah has
vowed Monday that it will deter possible Israeli aggressions but will not carry
out any military operation outside the country, local Elnashra website reported.
"We will not carry out any operation outside our Lebanese territories, but
we will not accept after today that the enemy (Israel) stages any assault
against our land," head of Hezbollah's members of parliament bloc Mouhamad Raad
said at a funeral.
Hezbollah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers in July 2006 from the Israeli side
of the borders with Lebanon, prompting an Israeli response which resulted in a
34-day devastating war.
However, Raad stressed that "Israel will pay the price for any possible
attack on Lebanon, and will receive the proper response."
As for the Western attempts to open dialogue with Hezbollah, Raad said
"Hezbollah welcomes this gesture," but "it is a mistake if we assume the United
States will abandon Israel for the sake of the Arabs."
"The United States' interest is with Israel, and the U.S. foreign policy
will not change," he said.
Britain announced earlier in March that it is ready to open dialogue with
the political wing of Hezbollah, while the United States reaffirmed that
Hezbollah is still categorized as a terrorist organization.
