Special report: Pakistani Situation
ISLAMABAD, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan on Friday
said that the U.S. drone attacks inside its territory from Afghanistan are
counter-productive, demanding the U.S. administration review its policy in this
regard.
The U.S. drone attacks inside Pakistan is a violation
of Pakistan's sovereignty, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Basit in
response to a question.
Basit said Pakistan has conveyed to the U.S.
government its concerns as these attacks were "definitely counter-productive".
Pakistan's remarks came at a time when U.S. President
Barack Obama will unveil the review policy in Pakistan and Afghanistan later
Friday.
Obama also called Pakistani President Asif Ali
Zardari on Thursday before the review policy was released.
The U.S. force has recently intensified drone strikes
inside Pakistan from Afghanistan for fear that Pakistan could not eliminate the
hideouts of al-Qaida and Taliban militants on its soil.
Earlier, the New York Times had reported that the
United States was considering whether to expand its covert war in Pakistan by
striking the southwest province of Balochistan.
But the Pakistani government has repeatedly refuted
the U.S. drone attacks on its soil.
